Our dearest July
Here we are! At the very beginning of the highest growth available during the year! A time in which we are to keep up with the duties of the maintenance of this growth!
What does this mean?
Well, you know the saying:
“A day in June counts as a week in July
and the entire month of September”
Indeed, the attention (and intention!) we put into the June designing, planting, fertilizing, trimming … it’s finally paying off with the explosion of the plants. To give you an idea about what is happening EVERY DAY:
we harvest a box with at least 20 zucchini in it - task that will go on for more than a month
we harvest a box per day of our aromas to dry them before they produce seeds: oregano, marjoran, celery, coriander, parsley, mint, sage, thyme, anice, hyssop, wild garlic, chives … some of these herbs have two or three varieties each (i.e.: Spanish mint, Moroccan mint, peppermint)
a tomato comes out, another grows, whilst the third becomes red. Meanwhile we cut the leaves to give humidity less chances to stay
we constantly pour water over batches of tomato leaves or nettle, in order to have fertilizers for the plants: we pour it more than ever after having cut them
the pumpkins “walk” 5-10 cm a day
the flowers follow their cycle and are as well harvested to be dried and used - à propos: check out our CALENDULA RISOTTO recipe
And so we go on, deciding what to plant on the land we just freed: flowers, veggies or clover? And helping the plants to live a long healthy life, giving us their best fruits!
There will be times during the following weeks, in which we will start cooking and drying and fermenting, to keep them with us also during the winter times; yet for now, we are to focus on the maintenance of this big, healthy beauty!
We are here for all of your questions, and to accept your subscription to the Permaculture Summer School, which indeed has only 2 spots left for July!
Enjoy the weather, with its swings that allow our moods not to feel lonely - as Fabrizio De André said: “Some wait for the rain, not to cry by themselves”; let’s take the sun to feel joyful and the thunderstorms to listen to which seeds are growing inside.
